Hillmac Speech - Hurricanes

Hurricanes. You might be thinking about the rugby team that knocks every body off their feet. Get it? Well this is not the rugby team, it is another ‘blow you away’ natural disaster.

So, what is the difference between a cyclone, hurricane and a typhoon you ask? Well they are all the same weather appearance. We just use different names for these storms in different places. In the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific, they are called hurricanes. In the Northwest Pacific it is called a typhoon and cyclones happen in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean. We call it a cyclone but i thought it would be different doing it on a hurricane.

What is the damage that a hurricane causes? Over the sea, a hurricane can cause the sea level to rise by several metres. This rise in water causes mammoth waves to hit the shores near the storm. Over the land, the hurricane does a lot of damage, with powerful winds hitting the landscape and pulling trees to the ground which can also smash houses on its way. Heavy rain from the hurricane's clouds also cause flooding. The floods can be big causing people to move to higher grounds but it won't last long.

I Would not like to in a hurricane after finding out all this information hurricanes sound horrible. Hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones are all the same thing meteorologically however, they can be referred in different countries using different terminology. Hurricanes can cause some serious damage and water vapor is a big component of a hurricane. Here is a quote I found online that highlights the connection when thinking or pondering about a hurricane... ‘sometimes life spins quickly around us. It is just about staying centered.’

Passion project week 1,2,3

Cross Country

Cross country is on tuesday. I can't wait... so on our usual P.E days the whole of shepard has been running the cross country track, but on the other days we have had a choice of either running the track or doing circuits. I did circuits. Every time I have run the track Miss O'B or one of the injured people have written down our time. these are my times: 18.49 and 18.16. The other times I am either injured or or away.

Here is a photo of Rainnah and Paige running the track.
