Sign off post 2017

This year has been amazing. The thing I will miss about Miss O'B is that she doesn't get angry and is the best teacher ever. I will not forget about she was first teacher at HNI. I want to be in Kennedy and Kiera's class next year as they are my best friends. This year Kiera is in room 12 but we still got to hang out at lunch and morning tea. I want to be in Kennedy's class because we get along really well and the best friend I have made this year. I also want to be in Jakub's class I love being in his class he is really funny and I have been in his class since kindergarten. I will really miss the whole of room 10 as every teacher has said we are the best class in school. I think. I cant believe 2017 is nearly over and I can't wait for 2018!!!

Thing pH scale does:
  • Acid and bases are two things that describe a chemical scale. Mixing acids and bases can take out or neutralize their big effects. A substance that isn’t acid or base is a neutral. The pH scale measures how acid or base a substance is. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. 0 being acid 7 being neutral and 14 being a base

Duane Kale

"It won't matter, 100 years from now, what your bank account balance was, what sort of house you lived in, or what sort of car you drove. I think the most important thing is to make a difference to yourself but also make a difference to others." these are some of the words Duane Kale 3 time paralympic gold medalist said to us on Friday. He spoke about his time in Atlanta and he brought along one Bronze, Silver and Gold medal.

Passion project - How to live Longer

This wat kennedy and I did during inquiry for 4 weeks along with this we did a google slide on our passion project. We chose to do this because it was interesting to do.

Scary Short Story

 The truth

I was feeling around for my glasses when I touched, It. It was cold hard and it had many things connected to it. The sky was grey when my glasses fell off. I was in some place I had been dragged along and that is all I remember. I suspect I banged my head on a tree or something because I was in the forest.

The thing I touched had short stubby things connected to it. It was a foot. Then they moved away. Someone's hands bent down to help me up and they took me to where I am now. In the middle of nowhere. Before I lost my glasses I had been pushed off the swing at the local park. I think was pushed off by Mark and Tom. The school bullies.

When I woke up there was no one but trees and I decided to get up and find my way home. But then I remembered I was in the middle of nowhere. I shouted out mayday three times no one came. I got up started to walk. My leg hurt really bad. I couldn't walk. I was hungry. I was tired. I need mum.

I sat there for an hour thinking what would happen if no one came. I heard footsteps coming towards me I turned around and saw a man with a facemask, a hoodie and gloves. I shouted for help no one came. He took my wrist and pulled me over and under tree vines. I tried hitting him off my wrist but he held tighter.

I ended up in a place that looked a house there was an oven a fridge and a bird cage with a rainbow bird sitting in there looking at me. At least I think he was looking at me. I turned to get up and run away but my hands and feet were strapped to the ground.

I heard a whole heap of footsteps coming and some louder ones running away. People with shields came in and took me out. I was taking back to the city and back to my mum. A week later I saw a guy with a facemask, a hoodie and gloves he looked at me and ran towards me. I turned to run away but my foot was in a cast. I saw Tom and Mark and they were running with me. They told me to get up and run.

Making Dumplings For Manderin

For Mandarin we made dumplings and played chopstick games in the hall with loushe Tracey.
we had to roll out the dough that one of the helpers gave us and then fill it with the meat mix. after we had made three we cooked them in hot water. there are two different tips of dumplings that are folded differently. there is a wealthy one and a very complicated one.

While we waited for the dumplings to cook we played the chopstick where we had to get raisins from one bowl to another using chopstick our team did not win but it was very hard. when the dumpling came out we got to eat them they were not my favourite but I ate them anyway.

All about my speech

Ki ora
Ko Jordan Toku Ingoa
No reira tena koutou tena koutou tena tatou katoa

Okay raise your hand if you have heard of the saying ‘you are what you eat’. Well the saying means what you put into your body is what you get out of your day/life. So if you get fish and chips for dinner thinking ‘Yay i have just bought a healthy dinner of potato and fish’ well you didn’t. (Sorry to crush your dreams)

Eating healthy is a big thing in life. Eating at least 5+ a day is good the saying eat  5+ a day is for fruit and veggies only. It is okay to eat unhealthy food but only as a treat. Eat subway for lunch if you are out and about because even though subway is a fast food restaurant doesn’t mean that it is unhealthy.

So carrying on from my last paragraph not every fast food restaurant is unhealthy. Mcdonald's is one of the most popular fast food cafe/restaurant but they are unhealthy if you buy the maccas salad and take out the deep fried chicken and eat the salad it is good and healthy.

If you have had enough of be the last one at the dining table because you decided not to eat your veggies. Well here is the solution to beating Dad or Mum who are the fastest at eating because they have had a big day. Here is the solution eat your veggies with all of the yummy stuff. Yea the yummy stuff might go a little bit gross but that doesn’t mean you should run to the bin and spit it out. Veggies are not the yummiest thing in the world but they help your body.  Carrots improve your eyesight, avocado keep your skin soft and kumara also help your skin but in many different ways.

If you eat pies then you will have an unhealthy lifestyle. You will be tired and not have a lot of energy. But if you have a good breakfast like an omelet and have an apple for morning tea and lunch is a yummy roll and a piece of baking then you will have lots of energy and will always be happy. Do you see the difference i know i do. Having a healthy lifestyle means having a healthy life which is good because it can lead to good things maybe you can pursue your dream of being an astronaut and going to the moon.

Your dream is your dream and you can achieve that dream but eating healthy is not the only thing that will get you there. There is one more tip i have. It is to exercise. You may not be the fittest person in class or the sportiest but if you give a sport a try you may love it. But if it still isn’t your thing instead of sitting on your computer you could go outside and jump on the trampoline learn some tricks come in have a drink of water and then carry on with homework or whatever you were doing. Little things like that can help heaps

Eating healthy and exercise are just little things to help you have a happy life and so is learning more things. Sport and outdoors may not be your thing but going for a walk and learning how to do tricks on the trampoline can help you lots. So I want to set you a challenge for one week try and eat healthy and learn some tricks on the trampoline or go for a walk anything to keep you healthy will work. Don’t forget about the saying ‘you are what you eat’ and maybe you will go to the moon and back one day.

Hillmac Speech - Hurricanes

Hurricanes. You might be thinking about the rugby team that knocks every body off their feet. Get it? Well this is not the rugby team, it is another ‘blow you away’ natural disaster.

So, what is the difference between a cyclone, hurricane and a typhoon you ask? Well they are all the same weather appearance. We just use different names for these storms in different places. In the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific, they are called hurricanes. In the Northwest Pacific it is called a typhoon and cyclones happen in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean. We call it a cyclone but i thought it would be different doing it on a hurricane.

What is the damage that a hurricane causes? Over the sea, a hurricane can cause the sea level to rise by several metres. This rise in water causes mammoth waves to hit the shores near the storm. Over the land, the hurricane does a lot of damage, with powerful winds hitting the landscape and pulling trees to the ground which can also smash houses on its way. Heavy rain from the hurricane's clouds also cause flooding. The floods can be big causing people to move to higher grounds but it won't last long.

I Would not like to in a hurricane after finding out all this information hurricanes sound horrible. Hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones are all the same thing meteorologically however, they can be referred in different countries using different terminology. Hurricanes can cause some serious damage and water vapor is a big component of a hurricane. Here is a quote I found online that highlights the connection when thinking or pondering about a hurricane... ‘sometimes life spins quickly around us. It is just about staying centered.’

Cross Country

Cross country is on tuesday. I can't wait... so on our usual P.E days the whole of shepard has been running the cross country track, but on the other days we have had a choice of either running the track or doing circuits. I did circuits. Every time I have run the track Miss O'B or one of the injured people have written down our time. these are my times: 18.49 and 18.16. The other times I am either injured or or away.

Here is a photo of Rainnah and Paige running the track.

My Diagram

We had make a detailed diagram. I chose to do mine on the fidget spinner. I traced a picture then put some colour on it. I put a massive title so you know what it is  you are looking at. My labelling is detailed so you know that the bearings are metal and that the cap is covering a bearing and things like that. Every diagram has three things: a Picture, labeling and always a title.

Awesome Foursome
4 Quarters

Imagine another class here at HNI has not played this game before. Complete the rules below to clearly describe the aim of the game and exactly what the rules are.
Aim of the game:
Rules:
1. You must sit down on you bottom if you go on your knees you must sit out
2. The aim of the game is to get all the balls in one quarter
3. You can’t  aim the ball at a person’s face
4. You get a point if all the balls go in your quarter but the team with the least amount of points win
5. Make sure you are always looking around

Game Adaptations
Use your creative thinking to explore possible adaptations to this game to enhance both the fun factor and the ability to win the game. I have given you one example for each category but challenge yourself with other ideas and thinking.

Attack
Defence
Game Plan/Strategy
  • Use balls other than netballs that aren’t as heavy so the speed of the travelling ball also speeds up the game.
  • Dodge balls instead of netballs
  • 4 players from each quad are allowed to sit on the bleaches to stretch with their arms and intercept flying balls.
  • One person on each team can play on their knees
  • People on the perimeter of the quad pass the ball to someone closer to the bleaches to allow them to throw it further into the opponent's area.
  • More confident people at the front and least confident at the back

Inquiry week 10

  1. You created 3 pieces of art in class. Which one were you most proud of and why?My Favourite is my korowai because it has lots of colours and I feel like I placed everything well. It is symmetrical.
  2. You were asked to submit your very own/individual piece of art that represented you and something you were inspired by. Explain in more detail about this… I am using my homework that I did of the poppy collage. I am really proud of it so that is why I am using it.
  3. You learnt some new skills during our term of art - cross hatching, colour composition, maori motifs, patterns and symmetry. Choose one and explain in more detail exactly what you learnt. Cross Hatching - our face would be flat if we did not use cross hatching because we did use cross hatching it is 3D.
  4. Our trip around Hawke’s Bay was to inspire us. Describe what your highlight was from this trip and why. I liked the museum  I have only been once so to go again was awesome I loved watching the men set up the tea cup viewing thing.
  5. If we carried out this Turangawaewae Inquiry topic again, what would you change/do differently?  I would get ready for my own piece of art and not use my homework but I like it so it does not matter
  6. Identify one person's artwork that you are impressed by. Explain why? I like Ashley's ‘ko wai au’ because it has lots of colours and really represents her.

Strike Percussion

They started with playing the drums and I could see that tired them out. It was so loud. Last year they came to Te Mata and it was really cool. I could see them sweating. I could also see them putting smiles on people’s faces. I could feel the vibration on the ground and it felt funny. It was so loud I could feel my heart pumping in my chest. They didn’t have the sound of rain so we had to make the sound with our mouths. I could rain.
